Steam Separator Tool

Wright-Austin centrifugal separators

Standard 6.35 in · 61.1% of max at 8″

Size a centrifugal separator for steam from pressure, weight flow, and incoming steam quality. Same FDPP method as the steam workbook. The sample case is loaded. Change any value and the result updates.

How this is calculated

Enter the lowest steam pressure, the weight flow, and the incoming steam quality. Quality is the vapor fraction. A value of 0.95 means the steam is 95% vapor and 5% moisture. Temperature is not entered. The steam workbook already builds that into the method.

The tool turns that steam into an equivalent flow of air, then estimates two inlet sizes. The standard size is the one to order for a normal separator. The receiver size is larger, for a receiver-style body. The recommended size is the next catalog inlet at or above the standard size.

The percent bar shows how hard the inlet you picked is working compared with the most that size can take at this pressure. Pressure drop follows from the same comparison. The condensate table shows how much water each removal rate represents, as a share of the maximum for that inlet.

Final steam quality is the vapor fraction after the separator takes out most of the moisture that came in with the steam. Call 908.362.9981 to confirm a selection before you order.
